CHANGING THE FUTURE BY MEETING THE NEEDS OF KIDS IN OUR CITY.

OUR BEGINNINGS

We Saw a Need

Spokane contains some of the poorest zip codes in the State of Washington. Seeing the need, a group of people who attended a church plant wanted to make an impact on kids who were marginalized. After years of setting kids up for success for their first day of school, the growing group of people realized it was time to make a difference on a regular basis, not just once a year. With many low-income families, we learned that we could offer opportunities to the children kindergarten to eighth grade. Because we asked what the real needs of kids were, we started One Heart Spokane. With One Heart, we wanted to step in and start encouraging children in our city to flourish.

We Acted

In 2018, we opened our first neighborhood outpost, the One Heart Center in East Central Spokane. It provides children with after school snacks and dinner in a safe environment where they can learn about relational life skills and develop healthy relationships while having fun. We meet each child where they are and encourage them in their growth through building lasting, stable relationships with them. By inviting them to our center, we invite them into relationships with someone who sees them as an individual with hopes, talents, and dreams and encourages them to grow.

WHAT WE DO

we want to impact the lives of 100,000 kids in the next four years. Our goal is to equip children with a safe space and warm meals all year round.

We reach this goal by:

  • Using our One Heart Center to provide a safe space for children to learn and grow.

  • Giving children an after-school snack and dinner at our One Heart Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.

  • Providing clubs/groups that encourage children in their journey to discover their passions and how to apply those passions to their daily lives.

  • Preparing children for the school year with our annual Back to School Event.

  • Engaging with the community with both our city-wide Easter Egg Hunt and our Thanksgiving Dinner Boxes.

* Thanks to the generosity of the partners, sponsors, individual contributors, and volunteers, we are able to provide these services for children year-round.
